I hope this edition of ISPPNews finds everyone continuing to be well and safe. I know that many are growing weary of the same four walls and less in-person interaction than normal. Unfortunately, it looks like we have a while longer to endure those things – without the same level of distraction on the U.S. presidential election.
While countries work to find an effective and safe vaccine, organizations such as ISPP must evaluate the circumstances and make decisions that will be best for the organization and its members. ISPP’s leadership recently considered the issue of the 2021 Annual Meeting scheduled for Montréal. While we would all like to meet in person again and enjoy the wonderful city and culture of Montréal, it is apparent that – especially with a global audience – it is not possible for everyone to be vaccinated or otherwise immune to the Covid-19 virus by July 2021. Therefore, in the interest of everyone’s safety, ISPP will again hold a virtual Annual Meeting for 2021. The dates for the conference and the submission deadline remain unchanged (1 December 2020 submission deadline; 8-10 July 2021 ISPP Academy; 11-13 July 2021 main meeting), and we have just recently posted the pricing for the main meeting. Our Program Chairs are planning to have some sessions scheduled at convenient times for nearly every time zone, and we will be able to have social and networking sessions as part of this year’s event as well. Spread the word to your friends and colleagues; we would love for as many people as possible to join us for exchanging ideas and a feeling of online community and connectivity.
Looking ahead, we are in the process of securing our venue for the 2022 Annual Meeting in Athens, Greece. Our fingers are crossed that we will be able to see everyone again in person at that time in another fascinating location!

Call for the New Twinning Program
Call for the Twinning Program in English [see below for the call in Arabic, French, Spanish and Turkish]
We are happy to announce that we are still accepting applications for our New Twinning Program among Scholars under Threat (ISPP members who lost their academic positions or their income in direct connection with political persecution and/or to members who have been displaced as a result of political persecution). The New Twinning Program has been set up with the aim of facilitating scholarly collaborations between threatened political psychologists and program partners. These collaborations can offer the opportunity for threatened scholars to continue their academic activities, maintain and advance their careers, and integrate into international political psychology; furthermore, partners can engage in political advocacy on behalf of threatened scholar. We are grateful to the 24 scholars who have already expressed their interest to work together with a scholar under threat as partners. We would kindly like to ask our members to reach out to those scholars within their networks around the world who may benefit from participating.

Therefore, we offer emergency funds to members who lost their academic positions or their income in direct connection with political persecution and/or to members who have been displaced as a result of political persecution and are without an official affiliation or income in their current location. ISPP has recently supported 17 scholars from Turkey. Therefore, at the moment we cannot accept applications for emergency funds. We are currently collecting donations in order to be able to reopen the emergency fund.

PhD position in research project on “Hate speech in polarized political controversies” at FSU Jena (Germany)
Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena (Germany) is opening a full time PhD position in the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Project NETHATE “Network for Training on Hate”, focusing on “Hate speech in polarized political controversies.”
2nd Meeting of the German Political Psychology Network
We invite you to the second meeting of the German Political Psychology Network, to be held as an online meeting on February 25th (afternoon) and February 26th (morning) 2021. This meeting is organized by a group of researchers from the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena. There will be no participation fee.
The COVID19 pandemic urges us all to change our health behaviours and related social behaviours at a neck-breaking speed. Psychology can help understand when and why people adopt preventive or resilient behaviour and provide guidance on how to enable behavioural change and deal with psycho-social consequences of the pandemic. This call for a special issue welcomes all contributions that shed light on how psychology can explain and help promote preventive behaviours in response COVID19, for instance, the (non)adoption of behaviour to protect ourselves and others from getting infected and its integration in our daily lives.
Call for Articles: Special Issue of ToP on Social Justice Pedagogy
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have become increasingly central to our understanding of the human experience. While awareness and scholarship about the importance of DEI has grown, expertise involving the most effective pedagogies for integrating DEI into teaching of psychology has not been widely disseminated. Teaching of Psychology (ToP) invites submissions for a special issue on the Social Justice Pedagogy: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Teaching of Psychology. Submissions that engage with DEI content and process including, but not limited to, learning objectives, teaching tools and techniques, assessments, managing difficult classroom dynamics, and/or curriculum considerations are especially welcome.
