Junior Scholars* at ISPP Annual Meetings |
* A Junior Scholar is defined as a
graduate student or untenured person, within 8 years of degree.
Junior Scholars Events at Annual Meetings
Every year at the
ISPP Annual Meeting, we host a social hour just for
junior scholars. We try to hold the social hour at the start of
the meeting, usually immediately before the opening reception. This way, we
can reunite with old friends or meet new ones early in the
conference, thus helping to create the community that makes ISPP
such a special organization. If you attend the annual meeting,
please come and join your fellow junior scholars at the Junior
Scholars Social Hour. At the 2008 meeting, the SOCIAL
HOUR will
be held 5:30 pm on July 9, followed by the opening
reception.The Junior Scholars Committee also
organizes various workshops and roundtable sessions
facilitating professional and academic development for junior
scholars. At the 2008 meeting, the JSC will offer a
ROUNDTABLE
on “Getting the Most from
Academic Conferences” as
well as a Publishing Roundtable with
presentations by editors and editorial assistants of the ISPP
journal Political Psychology. See the preliminary
schedule (accessible from the
main conference page) for dates
and times.
Through the
JSC Mentorship Program, you can also have an opportunity
to meet face-to-face with a senior faculty member who shares
your research interests at the annual meeting.
If you want to meet with a mentor during the 2008 meeting,
sign up when you register for the meeting. Those who do
so by May 1st will be guaranteed a match. The MENTORING TEA this
year is
tentatively scheduled for late afternoon July 10. Also, the
Roberta Sigel Junior Scholar Paper Award
is presented during the AWARDS CEREMONY at the Annual Meeting,
scheduled this year for the evening of July 11. |

Roommate Matching Service
The Junior Scholars Committee is
also assisting in roommate matching to help those who may want
to share accommodations at the meeting to cut expenses. For more
information, contact Matthew Woessner at
mcw10@psu.edu,
noting “roommate matching” in the subject line.
Include pertinent information such as when you'll be
arriving/leaving, your gender, smoking preference, roommate
gender preference, room preference (double, triple, quad), your
contact information, and special needs/requests.
Junior Scholars Travel Scholarships
This year, the Junior Scholars Committee announced a competition
for travel scholarships for Junior Scholars to travel to the
2008 ISPP Annual Meeting in Paris. Junior Scholar authors were invited to apply for these scholarships,
with first preference for dues paid ISPP members presenting
papers in Paris. A travel scholarships committee, comprised of the Conference Co-Chairs, the current ISPP President, and the Junior Scholars Committee Chair,
has evaluated applications and notified winners. Travel funds will be released in Paris at the
meeting. (Awardees: bring receipts to the ISPP membership table
by July 10th.) We hope to offer scholarships for future meetings as
well.
