About ISPP
ISPP is an interdisciplinary organization representing
all fields
of inquiry concerned with exploring the relationships between
political and psychological processes. Members include psychologists,
political scientists, psychiatrists, historians, sociologists,
economists, anthropologists, as well as journalists, government
officials and others. The Society is also international, with
members from all regions of the world: the Americas, Europe, Asia,
the Middle East, and Africa.
In January 1978, the International Society of Political Psychology
was founded by Jeanne N. Knutson of the Department of Psychiatry
and Biobehavioral Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles.
Since that time, the Society has grown to over 800
members who share this area of scholarly interest.
ISPP has established a tradition of scholarly excellence at its
annual meetings. Each meeting since the first one in New York
City in September of 1978 has brought together hundreds of conferees
in a four- day program of intensive workshops, panel discussions,
invited addresses, and special events. Society meetings generally
offer over 100 panels, round tables, and workshops, with over 300
presentations. The locations of annual meetings have included:
Santiago de Compostela, Spain 1994; Washington DC, USA 1995; Vancouver,
BC, Canada 1996; Krakow, Poland 1997; Montreal, Canada 1998; Amsterdam,
The Netherlands 1999; Seattle, Washington, USA 2000; Cuernavaca, Mexico 2001;
Berlin, Germany 2002; Boston, Massachusetts, USA 2003; Lund, Sweden
2004; Toronto, Canada 2005; Barcelona, Spain 2006;
Portland, Oregon, USA 2007; Paris, France 2008; and will be held
in Dublin, Ireland
in 2009.
The Society is honored by many exceptional scholars and distinguished
individuals who are
committed members. Throughout its history,
the ISPP has offered encouragement to those who actively engaged
in a wide spectrum of disciplinary approaches to political psychology.
We seek to bring together all who share our interest from all
regions of the world. We welcome
new members. Members will receive
the quarterly journal
Political Psychology;
ISPPNews, the Society's
newsletter; and reduced registration fees at
annual scientific
meetings.
