ISPP Elected Officers 2006
Member of Governing Council
(three-year term, beginning July 2006)
Angela Kindervater
Born in 1961
in East Berlin and raised in East Germany, Angela Kindervater was denied admission to
East German Universities due to my critical political attitude. She
was able to leave the GDR for political and personal reasons in
1989, before the fall of the wall between East and West. She subsequently enrolled at the University of Hamburg and registered
for a combination of courses in educational science, psychology and
sociology--a course of study that seemed suitable to answer
questions such as "What is needed for individual development?" and
"What are the opportunities and what are the dangers of today's
times?" It is not surprising, therefore, that she ended up working in
the field of authoritarianism research and related subjects such as
anti-Semitism research. Her first and most important contact with
political science and the ISPP is related to her time as a student of Gerda Lederer.
This led to Angela becoming a member of the ISPP in 1994.
She was awarded an MA in educational science from the University of
Hamburg in 1995 and thereafter worked in several international
research projects. Since 1998, she has been a member of the
editorial staff of the German Journal for Political Psychology.
Since 2001, she has been a member of the Junior Scholars Committee of the ISPP.
Currently Angela is working on her dissertation for the PhD on the subject
of "The Relation between Stereotypes and Prejudice--the Role of
Authoritarian Dispositions", scheduled to be completed in the summer
of 2006.
As a member of the ISPP Angela would like to support an organization which aims
to build bridges between people of different continents and
different perspectives on social research.
